Oil pulling has been practiced for thousands of years originally starting in India as a remedy for dental ailments. It involves using oils to extract bacteria and plaque buildup from the surfaces of your teeth, gums, and tongue.
Virgin Coconut oil is most commonly used for oil pulling because of its antibacterial/ microbial properties and mild flavor. Other recommended oils include sesame oil and sunflower seed oil. Check for added ingredients before using these oils for oral hygiene.
Incorporating oil pulling into your dental regimen is simple. After flossing, take tab out a teaspoon of oil and swish it in your mouth for as long as possible. Attempt to move the oil between our teeth and let it coat your tongue as well. Aim for 10 minutes of oil pulling daily for effective results. After you’ve discarded the oil (preferably in the trash to prevent clogged pipes from the oil solidifying,) you can proceed with brushing your teeth and any other hygiene steps.
